UMBRELLAS
coming soon! Currently in Revision for Deluxe Edition Re-release!
The traditional art of handmade umbrellas is found in various places in East Asia. Umbrellas tells the story of a young girl as she watches her mother, who makes homemade umbrellas in her homeland of Northern Thailand. These beautifully handcrafted umbrellas are a protection from the sun and rain, but they are more than mere umbrellas, they are works of art. This delightful book, written and illustrated by Twila Farmer, will take you along as a girl and her mother create colorful, hand-painted umbrellas in a process filled with skill, creativity, and joy.
CHARLOTTE MASON: THE TEACHER WHO REVEALED WORLDS OF WONDER
“Author Lanaya Gore and illustrator Twila Farmer have brought the story of Charlotte Mason and her educational ideas to life in this vibrant, beautiful picture book. The seemingly ordinary teacher living in Victorian England inspired an extraordinary movement in education, first in her own time, and now in ours. Untold numbers of children around the world are learning according to Charlotte Mason's philosophy, both at home and in classrooms. Lanaya Gore's engaging prose and Twila Farmer's breathtaking paintings together tell the story of the woman who devoted herself to bringing worlds of wonder to children-children whom she insisted were persons of worth and potential-through a generous feast of living books and the natural world.”
Reviving the art of Personal Connection
Author and illustrator Twila Farmer spent more than 25 years creating art for books and publications. As publishing increasingly relied on AI and society grew more dependent on phones, Twila and her husband, Chris, noticed it becoming harder to gather people in person and build meaningful connections. In response, they intentionally stepped toward a more tangible life, buying a small farm, homeschooling, teaching traditional art techniques, and creating products designed to help people put down their phones and reconnect with God, nature, real things, and one another. Twila lives in Missouri with her husband, son, and an assortment of animals. She holds an MFA in Illustration through the University of Hartford and is a second-degree black belt in ShoShinkan Karate.
